Chevrolet: Back in old days, Chevrolet was the number one car manufacturer in America. They took the spot from Ford, the company that started the American car industry, in the 1950s. At that time, Chevrolet executives decided to be bold. They designed the Chevy Nomad. It was a station wagon, but unlike other station wagons, consumers considered it a cool car. Then came the Corvette, which made Chevrolet the king of the car manufacturers.
Today Chevrolet is not lucky enough to hold the top spot among car manufacturers. The company is competing now not only with other American companies but with international companies, too. Chevrolet has learned that it will have to be innovative again to compete in the car industry.
Chevrolet overall has the reputation of providing consistent, and generally reliable, cars. They are not flashy sports cars or powerful trucks. Instead the Chevy brand is as the company’s long-time motto stated: “like a rock.” Most Chevrolet models are considered stable bets. They have the basic amenities that the modern car buyer has come to expect, such as electric locks and windows. At the same time, the cars often offer considerable amounts of room inside the car and the trunk, which makes the Chevrolet midsize models very popular with families.
Among Chevy’s current models, the Impala is the most family-friendly of the sedans. This remake of a Chevrolet classic is sleek and runs well with plenty of room. Among trucks, the SSR is the most creative design Chevy has to offer. Its look is similar to older model trucks. The Suburban, which led sport utility vehicles, now is taking a backseat to the HHR, which is a modern roadster, and the Trail Blazer. These models all offer the same basic features and are part of a long tradition of American cars and trucks.
